Cold temperatures and icy roadways have led to City of Las Cruces non-emergency operations closing two-hours early on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
The early closure includes public facilities such as City Hall, Library, Museums, Senior Programs, Parks and Recreation facilities, and utilities offices. City offices will close at 3 p.m. Roadrunner Transit will maintain operations as scheduled. Warming stations will stay open for the hours previously announced.
Emergency services, such as police and fire, will not be affected and Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch, the 911 call center, will remain operational.
Tips for keeping safe during cold weather:
- Limit outdoor exposure and dress appropriately when you must be exposed to the elements.
- Use extreme caution when driving. Reduce speeds and increase distance between other motorists as roadways may be icy.
- Consider packing a warm blanket, and additional cold-weather attire in your vehicle in case you become temporarily stranded. Include extra water and other necessities that might be of use.
- Ensure your cell phone is adequately charged and limit its use to priority calls.
- Check on family, friends and neighbors who might need assistance during the cold weather.
