The mayor of the Village of Hatch passed away on Saturday. Mayor James Whitlock, known by many as “Slim,” was 65 years old, according to Mayor Pro-tem Dennis Torres.
Toress said that Whitlock passed away at his family business, Jim’s Supermarket. Before he passed, Whitlock was serving his second term as a trustee for the Village of Hatch. His first term was from 2012 to 2016, according to the village’s website. Whitlock also previously served as a member of the Board of Education for Hatch Valley Schools.
The Village of Hatch has suffered a great loss. Not only have we lost an extraordinary member of the community but our Mayor, Mayor James Whitlock, know by many as Slim.
Mayor Whitlock was always around for celebrations and festivities, but most of all in times of need. Known for greeting everyone with a smile from side to side.Always asked for your well being and never forgot to ask about our families.
“Doing extra good”, a phrase that we will forever cherish.
Slim, the great kind man who always provided a helping hand; the man the Valley will never forget.
The Hatch Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. It was an honor to have worked with him, he will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
Mayor Pro-tem Torres, a lifelong resident and community member of Hatch, has assumed the role of interim mayor.
