Police Arrest Two Students for Possessing Firearms at a School

Las Cruces police arrested two 15-year-old students who were in possession of firearms at Organ Mountain High School Thursday morning.

About 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, police received information about two students believed to be in possession of firearms on campus. The school was placed on a brief shelter in place while police conducted their investigation.

The investigation resulted in two 15-year-old students, both boys, who were taken into custody. Both were found to be in possession of a firearm on campus. Police recovered one handgun from each student.

Both students were charged with unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises and unlawful possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 19. Both students were booked into the juvenile section of the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

Task Force Officers with the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force will be pursuing federal prosecution on both subjects in reference to firearms violations and narcotics trafficking.
