Free Car Seat Fitting Station Offered May 1 in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES — A free car seat fitting station will be available to the public on Thursday, May 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, located at 425 W. Boutz Road in Las Cruces.

The event provides parents and caregivers with hands-on assistance from nationally certified child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs), who offer guidance on the correct selection, installation and use of child safety and booster seats.

Car seat inspections will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary.

To participate, attendees are encouraged to bring their car seat, the car seat manual, vehicle manual and, if possible, and the child who uses the seat. A $35 fee may apply for seat replacements, and children must be present to be considered for a replacement.

At the event:

  • CPSTs will spend approximately 30 minutes per seat educating parents and caregivers on the proper selection, installation, and use of their car and booster seats.
  • Parents and caregivers will also learn important information regarding common errors in car seat safety and be able to ask questions.
  • If a technician determines a car seat to be recalled, expired, or otherwise unsafe, replacement seats will be available.

Fitting Stations are funded by the NMDOT Traffic Safety Division and are available to everyone.
