Juneteenth is just around the corner, and the Las Cruces Museums have partnered with Derrick Lee and some amazing musicians around Las Cruces to present the Fifth Annual “Juneteenth Jazz Arts Festival!” There are a lot of amazing events happening from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 22, all over Las Cruces!
Here is a small listing of a few of the events we have partnered in hosting.
Sunday, June 15:
* The “Community Celebration” will be from 4pm to 6pm at the Plaza de Las Cruces with music and dance. The Joe Dunn Big Band will play starting at 8pm. The Plaza de Las Cruces is at 100 North Main Street.
**The Las Cruces Museums will be closed all day on Thursday, June 19, in recognition of Juneteenth, however, we will still be partnering with events around town.**
Thursday, June 19:
* Join NMSU Black Programs and the Las Cruces Museums from noon to 2pm at the Corbett Center East Side Lawn for the Juneteenth Kickoff event and “Pull Up A Chair” with reading of the Juneteenth Proclamation, food, and performances.
* Then, head to Young Park from 7:30pm to 9pm. The Las Cruces Jazz Collective will perform with guest vocalist Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim! Young Park is located at 850 South Walnut Street.
Saturday, June 21:
* Stop by the Branigan Cultural Center from 10am to 1pm for our “Juneteenth Celebration!” During the celebration, we will have our “Culture Past & Present” program from 10am to 11am, where Daymeon Rembert will speak as a Buffalo Soldier, and we will also feature performances by Lush Life Quintet.
