Task Force Investigates Shooting

Las Cruces police and the Officer-involved Incident Task Force are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting that resulted in no major injuries.

About 3:40 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a possible domestic incident on the 1900 block of Embassy Drive. One of the parties in the domestic was reported to be armed with a firearm.

The investigation is in its infancy, but preliminary information indicates one LCPD officer discharged his duty issued firearm before a non-lethal use of force was used to take the subject, a male, into custody.

The subject was transported to a local hospital with non-gunshot, non-life-threatening injuries he obtained while being taken into custody. Charges against the subject are pending.

The officer was not injured and will be placed on administrative leave which is standard protocol for such an incident.

A portion of Embassy Drive near Hoagland Avenue will temporarily be closed during the on-scene investigation.

The Officer-involved Incident Task Force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.

No other information is available at this time.
