Las Cruces police arrested 18-year-old Jonathan Estrada who is believed to be responsible for the June 2, 2025, road rage fatal shooting of 14-year-old Alejandro Roman near the intersection of Solano Drive and Spruce Avenue.
Estrada was arrested Thursday morning at a business on the 6300 block of Bataan Memorial West.
Estrada is charged with seven felony counts including second-degree murder, two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and violating terms of probation.
Estrada is initially being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, near the intersection of Solano Drive and Spruce Avenue. Investigators believe the shooting was a result of road rage between occupants of the two vehicles. It claimed the life of Roman, 14, who was a backseat passenger of a vehicle driven by a parent.
Investigators believe Estrada was driving a white mid-size sport utility vehicle at the time of the shooting.
The investigation into the June 2 shooting is still underway. Additional information will be made public at the appropriate time.
