New Mexico Fire Restrictions

State officials have issued statewide fire restrictions across New Mexico as dry conditions, low humidity, and strong winds continue to increase the risk of dangerous wildfires.

The restrictions took effect Monday, April 6th, and ban smoking, fireworks, campfires, and open burning on non-municipal, non-federal, and non-Tribal lands across the state. Officials say the wildfire danger is currently extremely high and poses a serious threat to public safety and property.

Certain activities are still allowed, including the use of propane or gas cooking devices in properly cleared areas, and charcoal grills within residential yards or at businesses. Public fireworks displays may also be permitted if approved by local fire departments.

State officials are urging residents to use caution and avoid any activity that could spark a fire. The restrictions will remain in effect statewide until conditions improve.
