Las Cruces business owners may be eligible for reimbursement of up to $5,000 for security improvements through a city program aimed at helping deter crime and create safer environments for employees and customers.
The Las Cruces Police Department is partnering with the City of Las Cruces Economic Development Department to provide free Business Security Assessments and help eligible businesses access grant reimbursement for qualifying improvements.
The Small Business Safety Improvement Grant Program is available to eligible independently owned businesses, qualifying nonprofits and commercial property owners located within the El Paseo and South Solano Metropolitan Redevelopment Area and the West Picacho and Motel Boulevard Metropolitan Redevelopment Area.
Eligible businesses and nonprofits generally must have 40 or fewer full-time employees. Reimbursable security improvements can include security cameras and camera doorbells, locks and security hardware, doors, door and window sensors, outdoor security lighting and fencing.
The program has been available in the El Paseo and South Solano area since November 3, 2025, and expanded to businesses and commercial property owners in the West Picacho and Motel Boulevard area beginning July 1, 2026. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
As part of the program, Las Cruces Police can provide free Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design assessments, on-site safety evaluations, crime-prevention recommendations and other community safety resources.
The City of Las Cruces also has utilized federal American Rescue Plan Act funding for small-business assistance programs. That federal funding was made available to communities for programs such as these through the American Rescue Plan Act approved during the Biden administration.
The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11, 2021.
Business owners interested in the security assessment program can call the Las Cruces Police Department at 575-541-2286 for additional information.
